  • A Year of Firsts

Well, it has been a long time since I updated, so I might as well give an update.

First off, it looks like Ronny had a good point.  Life does get better when you turn 23.  It's been pretty good so far, and I've been enjoying life a lot more.   A few bad things, but mostly good.  I went to Seattle for the first time in March with Mel (if you want to see the trip, go to Mel's xanga... my camera broke.  ) It's good to get away from your surroundings every so often and experience something new.  I know I've never walked so much hills in my life! But here's a quick run through of the good things going on:

    1.  I got a promotion!  I work in the same company as always, but I am now an operational business analyst.  I have to primary run reports and clean ups to our main system.  I also have to support users who use the system to service customer accounts.  Pretty bad because I've never had to service customer's accounts, so it's definitely been challenging.  I've made some new friends at work and realized that some of them know people I knew in high school and college.  Pretty interesting, no?

    2.  I bought a car!!  It's my first car and it's in my name!  It's a baby blue Mazda3 with some pretty nice features.  Still pretty basic, but it's my first car and I really like it so far.  I just got it recently, so I haven't really taken it anywhere.  Maybe I'll drive it up to Dallas (unless someone else drives me up there.  )  I haven't take a picture yet, but I will try to post it some time soon.

    3.  I got into my first accident....BOOO!!!  Not that much damage to the car, but it still sucks to have it on my record and have my insurance go up.

    4.  I went to my first comedy show ever!  It was pretty interesting.  The hostess was funny, the opening guy was hilarious, and the main act was pretty funny.  His name was Henry Cho and he was a Korean who grew up in Tennessee.  Interesting childhood and family, no?  And he can't be a BAM (Bitter Asian Male) because he married a Caucasian female.  LOL

    5.  And last, but not least, I am no longer single. To some of you, you've already met or seen him, but for some of you, you haven't met my boyfriend yet.  His name is Rey, and we've been going out for a few months now.  He's my first boyfriend, and I think he's a pretty awesome guy to have as a first boyfriend.  I can't participate and have a "Boys suck!" mentality anymore. LOL But I'll still help and listen to you ladies if you need someone!

  • Nice song

I just heard this song on Music Choice.  I really liked the song

How to Touch a Girl - JoJo

    mmm

I think I could like you
    I already do
    feelings can grow but
    they can go away too
    you're takin my hand
    lookin into my eyes
don't be in a rush to
    get me tonight

    feel somethin happenin
    could this be a spark?
    to satisfy me baby
    gotta satisfy my heart

    CHORUS:
do you know how to touch a girl?
if you want me so much
    first I have to know
    are you thoughtful and kind?
do you care what's on my mind?
or am I just for show?
you'll go far in this world
if you know how to touch a girl

do you know how to touch, know how to touch a girl?
do you know how to touch, know how to touch a girl?

I think I could like you
    but I keep holding back
cause I can't seem to tell
    if you're fiction or fact
    show me you can laugh
    show me you can cry
show me who you really are
    [ these lyrics found on http://www.completealbumlyrics.com ]
    deep down inside

    do you feel somethin happenin?
    could this be for real?
I don't know right now but tonight we'll reveal

    CHORUS

    bring me some flowers
    conversation for hours
to see if we really connect
    and baby if we do
ooh i'll be givin all my love to you
    ohh

    CHORUS

do you know how to touch, know how to touch a girl? (yeah, yeah)
do you know how to touch, know how to touch a girl?

you'll go far in this world
if you know how to touch a girl

  • Resolutions

Resolutions are a funny thing, aren't they? Most people make them at the beginning of the year and not even a week later most people break those resolutions.  It's not for a lack of trying, but maybe it's because people lack the resolve or discipline to carry out their resolutions.  I'm not saying don't make resolutions, because it's always a good thing to look at a new opportunity and set some goals.  We shouldn't beat ourselves up if we don't achieve our goals in the end, but neither should we be so nonchalant.  We should strive for realistic goals that push our limits, but not so far that they're completely unattainable.  Now what's considered realistic versus unrealistic, I'm not sure, but I want to believe that resolutions help all of us become better people, not make us realize that we're completely unfocused or lackadaisical.

This year my resolutions are few, but I think they will definitely be a challenge.  They're not ones I can fail easily, but they're also ones I cannot achieve easily either.

    1.  Read 12 books this year.  For those of you that know me, I hardly ever have time, but I think it's not so much I don't have time, but I don't make time for myself.  Well, I don't have time for myself, but that's because I spend soo much time doing stuff for other people and events that I don't really take time out to just sit there and read, watch, vegetate, etc.

    2.  Maintain a positive perspective for myself.  If someone ever needs a cheerleader, I'm that person. Even when I'm not even sure what the outcome will be, I try to stay positive for other people.  Now, when it comes to myself....well, that's a different story.  But maybe that's part of the problem I've had in past years.  I will try to keep going for myself, and to be hopeful that everything will turn out okay.

    3.  Stop running around like a chicken without its head.  Hahahaha this will definitely be a challenge.  It seems like I stress other people out because I'm stressed and they end up worrying about me.  So instead of adding grease to the fire, maybe I should learn to add water or even ice, so I can assess the situations better. Worry about the things that really matter at the moment, and work step by step.  Instead of jumping from point A to point J to point R and back to point B.....

Well, here's to a new year full of new opportunities.  Man...in a month, Lunar New Year starts, and it's the Year of the Pig... At least I have a red bracelet and earrings to wear.

    The Story Goes...
    By Craig David
    Unbelievable

    "Friendship is...

unnecessary, like philosophy, like art.... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival." ~C. S. Lewis

This quote is pretty true; some species survive quite well without needing constant friendship or companionship, but having it definitely improves someone's perception on life and survival.  Instead of it becoming a lonely journey, it becomes an interesting adventure that you can share with someone or a group of people.  I think we're blessed if we can say that we have at least 1 person you can turn to when things get rough.  I can say I'm many times blessed because I have a sister and several friends that I can turn to when things are getting pretty rough.  And on the other side, I feel sad for those who feel they have no one to turn to in their time of need...  I can only imagine how much harder a journey becomes when they have nobody to share the burden of the journey.  I can only hope that I can help someone in that position if I know of it.

Growing up, I can honestly say I valued my guy friends and having fun and doing stuff with them. I loved playing games, running around with them, and being one of the guys. They didn't really backstab me and they were protective of me like a little sister. But then at some point, you realize you need more empathy and support as you get older.  As you get older and face certain things, you realize that good and reliable girl friends are more priceless than the rarest jewels. You can talk with guy things about some things, but only girls understand the wacky things that girls talk about (e.g. weight, guys, sleepovers).  Just tonight, I was talking with three of my "angels" and we talked about the most random things.  But the fact that they made me smile and realize that things are not as bad as they seem make even the most bizarre conversations invaluable.

So thank you for friendship and hopefully I'll get to see most of you in the next month!  And for those I won't get to see, hopefully I'll get a hold of you sometime.

On a side note, I want to continue the wish list tradition. (Thanks Karen for reminding me about it! )  This will be my 3rd year doing it, and the usual is that we make a wish for 100 things and not all of it has to be attainable (e.g. world peace).  But then again that's the point of a wish list.  Some of it will be things we'll want, but we're not going to get that easily.  If you wanna do it, that's cool. If not, that's cool too. I was thinking to post it on xanga by December 10?  As for me, I'll start that post this coming weekend probably, and update it every so often. I wanna know thoughts and suggestions, so please feel free to leave comments.
